Born in India, Anju Dodiya studied her B.F.A from the J.J.School of Art, Bombay. Dodiya’s work weaves together stories which are fictional yet very real. Working largely in her favored medium of watercolour, one can see that there is a highly expressive quality to the works. The Pale Mourner (2004) clearly reflects this mood, where it is an imaginary pictorial context but something that can very well be a part of reality. She treads on this fine line distinguishing fantasy and reality and simultaneously builds her personal metaphors. Anju Dodiya has participated in several solo and group shows nation wide and is one of the best recognised artists in the contemporary art scene. |
