1850 Received his artistic training at University College School London
1854 Studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence
1855 - 1859 Lived in Paris where he met Ingres, Delacroix, Corot, Troyon, and Millet
1864 Became an associate of the Royal Academy
1878 - 1896 President of the Royal Academy
