Evgeni Rastorguev, a Russian artist from Gorodets-on-the-Volga, was born in 1920. He is a survivor of the Stalinist era. As an artist he grew significantly during the new cultural liberalism under Khrushchev only to see it stifled under renewed suppression. The artists works capture the beauty of the Russian folk tradition: the spirit of the Russian fairs, the colorful townspeople, and everyday Russian life. |
