Biography
1876 Born in Stavropol, Samara region, Russia
1890 Studied in a non-classical secondary school in Samara in the studio of F. Burov
1895 Studied in Baron Stiglitz school of drawing
1896 - 1903 Student of D.Klark in Riga
1904 Student of A.Kiselev and N.Dubovskoy in the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts
1911 Won International Gold Medal in Munich
1911 - 1913 Pensioner of the Academy in Italy
1917 Regularly participated in the Peredvizhniki exhibitions
1924 Emigrated from Russia. Lived in Italy. Participated in the exhibition of Russian art in Hague.
1925 Exhibition in Pittsburgh, USA
1928 Moved to Berlin, Germany. Visited Ilya Repin in Finland.
1929 Exhibition in Cologne
1930 Exhibition in Berlin
1945 Died in Berlin
1960 In concordance with Gorbatov's will, all paintings from his Berlin studio were returned to Russia.
