Atkinson was an animal and landscape painter in oil, tempera and watercolour He was born in Newcastleand attended Newcastle School of Art and is said to have studied briefly under Wilson Hepple. From 1901 until just before the First World War he lived at Sleights, North Yorkshire, forming many friendships with members of the Staithes Group. Atkinson’s work shows an emphasis on horses and especially haymaking. He exhibited at the Royal Academy as well as the Royal Scottish Academy and his work is held in numerous collections throughout the North of England |
