Painter of landscapes in oils. Born in Manchester. Lived at Southport, Bolton Abbey and then at Nessfield near Ilkley. His landscapes of Wharfedale and the Scottish Highlands are widely appreciated. Herbert Royle exhibited at the Royal Academy for about fifty years from 1894 and at the RSA from 1900 as well as the Glasgow Institute and the ROI. Represented in several public collections including Leeds and Bradford. |
