The Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery is pleased to bring to the Art Miami some of our long term Gallery artists and masterpieces from the Gallery’s inventory.
John Ferren is one of the foremost American Modernist painters, mingling with artists like Joan Miro and Alberto Giacometti while living and working in Paris in the 30’s. Ferren became an active member of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism after World War II. His paintings are in the permanent collection of all major American museums, including the Whitney Museum.
Stephen Pace first came to prominence as a very visible member of the New York School. His prime abstract work from the 1950’s and early 1960’s was featured in the most prominent galleries of his time, including the Stable Gallery, the Rose Fried Gallery, and the Whitney Annuals for four consecutive years. The Gallery has represented both Pace and Ferren since 1983. Examples of paintings and works on paper will be shown at Art Miami.
Yvonne Thomas recently passed away on August 7, 2009 at the age of 95, and was one of the few women artists in the 1950’s and 1960’s to be seen as a serious abstract expressionist and to be accepted in their tight circle. She is one of only sixteen artists to exhibit in all five of the New York Painting and Sculpture Annuals.
Milton Resnick’s thickly-impastoed and often nearly monochromatic canvases have been exhibited in the historic Ninth Street show, and were featured in all five of the Stable Gallery Annuals. His paintings contain Impressionistic brushwork and heavily encrusted surfaces, and have been included in many museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Modern Museum of Art.
George McNeil (1908-1995) was an important member of the Second School of Abstract Expressionism, and his prime work from the 1970’s and early 1980’s are composed of bright, bold, and energetic forms. His emotionally charged subjects take inspiration from contemporary phenomena such as disco dancing, punk rock, and street life in New York City. The artist is included in most major American Museum s including the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Argentinian-born painter Antonio Scordia (1919-1998) has received numerous prizes, participated in several Venice Biennales, and is included in such collections as the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington D.C., among many others. The artist lived half his life in Argentina and the other half in Italy, where his parents were born. Our Gallery will bring along a major painting of this artist, entitled Nike Zora
from 1981.
Other Abstract Expressionists and gallery artists will be included in this exhibit such as James Brooks, John Grillo and Fred Mitchell, and Claire Klarewicz-Okser. As a previous participant in several Art Miami Shows, we hope to contribute to make this year’s Art Miami a great success.
