ART COLLABORATIONS / INTAGLIO WORKSHOP / BOOK PUBLISHING / EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE
David Krut Projects is located in the center of New York's Chelsea art district. Established in September of 2001, the space originally promoted and exhibited print editions published by David Krut, including works by William Kentridge and Gary Schneider. The project space recently expanded and reopened with the first New York solo show of nautical box constructions by the Scottish artist, Will Maclean.
David Krut Projects will host a limited number of exhibitions with an emphasis on artists whose works have not previously been seen in New York.
Previous exhibitions include Santu Mofokeng, Paul Stopforth, Simon Lewty, Alex Forman and the Bambanani Women's Body Maps.
In association with the University of Cape Town, David Krut Projects promotes the Body Maps art works produced by the Bambanani Women's group.
This project was initiated with Médecins Sans Frontières to create an awareness of the HIV pandemic in South Africa.
David Krut began publishing editions and multiples with various artists from different parts of the world in 1973: William Kentridge and Willem Boshoff from Johannesburg, Donald Sultan and Gary Schneider from New York, Tom Hopkins from Montreal, Oleg Kudryashov from Moscow and Christopher Cook from Exeter. Editions and collaborations with William Kentridge were initiated in 1992 and include a multi-media cd-rom, a music cd of Phillip Miller’s compositions for the charcoal animations and a 40 minute video documentary.
Besides the Kentridge educational publications, DAVID KRUT PUBLISHING also publishes books and educational material on contemporary SOUTH AFRICAN ARTISTS
These publications include the TAXI ART BOOKS series which is funded by the French Institute of South Africa, Pro- Helvetia – Swiss Arts Commission, the Royal Netherlands Embassy, and the National Arts Council of South Africa. DAVID KRUT PUBLISHING aims to produce both textually and visually compelling material to increase awareness and disseminate knowledge on contemporary South African visual culture.
