We are pleased to announce the launch of our first auction “Sky Auction” at the Conrad Hotel in Hong Kong on November 29th, 2008. The preview for the auction, which we like to call an exhibition, will take place from November 27th to 29th at the same location. Our main purpose is to introduce quality Japanese art works ranging from Post-war to Contemporary. We intend to question the fashionable contemporary art bubble within the art market, and at the same time develop a sound and solid art market in Asia based on valuable and historical works.
We would like to introduce quality Japanese art works from post-war to contemporary. We intend to raise a question about the fashionable contemporary art bubble in the art market, at the same time we aim to develop a sound art market (auction) in Asia. As the organizer of SKY AUCTION, Art BANK aims to position ourselves apart from the speculative money gambling, which can be seen in certain auction houses.
The category of “Post-War and Contemporary Art” section includes 29 selected art works. Within this category, 15 works are from up and coming Japanese contemporary artists, who have exhibited in Tokyo in the “Who’s Next” exhibition during the spring of 2008; “Who’s Next” was an exhibition organized by Art BANK with the intention of introducing emerging artists to the global art market. Some of those artists are also being included in the “Noblesse Oblige Art Benefit” category, which will be part of the auction. In this category, the lower estimate of the works will be paid directly to the artist and the portion above the lower estimate will be donated to Mçdecins du Monde (Humanitarian Aid Organization) as a donation. As the organizer of SKY AUCTION, Art BANK aims to position itself apart from the speculative money gambling which can be commonly seen within certain auction houses.
Furthermore, at the beginning of the auction, SKY AUCTION would like to introduce prints and works on paper by 19th and 20th century Modern masters. Those works have been selected for their quality and historical value. Please join us for the auction, as we are looking forward to seeing you at the Conrad Hotel Hong Kong.
