Internationally known fine art and commercial photographer, Darryll Schiff, comes from a family of artists. When he was just 6 years old he had already picked up a camera and was making sculptures. At 8 years old he began classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, where his mother and sister both graduated.
Although his first serious photos were taken back in elementary school, Schiff’s formal education was at the Institute of Design, which was founded as the New Bauhaus by Lazlo Moholy-Nagy. Beginning in graphic design with Cosmo Campoli, he fell in love with the art of photography, studying with Arthur Siegel, Joseph Jachna, Gary Winnogrand, and Aaron Siskind.
While just a sophmore, Schiff’s work was already being selected for shows and purchased for private collections.
Continuing his fine art, he also pursued a successful career in commercial photography, shooting assignments for Los Angeles Magazine, Rolling Stone, San Francisco Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily, Stern, Geo, Beverly Hills Magazine, Capitol Records, Charles Jourdan, and Pepsi. Darryll’s list of celebrity clients include Tea Leoni, Mark Harmon, Jason Patric, Holly Robinson Peete, Sela Ward, Pat Riley, Regina King, Chazz Palminteri, Jasmine Guy, and Robin Williams.
Schiff works on a few select commercial assignments only, spending the majority of his time doing his fine art work, where he can focus on the purely artistic aspects of the images.
Currently his work appears in the exhibit “The Collectible Moment”Photographs in the Norton Simon Museum” and in the collections of MOMA New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, George Eastman House, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, etc., and in many private collections.
