Founded in 1986, Cavalier Galleries & Sculpture Garden was originally located at Landmark Square in Stamford, CT, where Mr. Cavalier began exhibiting the works of emerging and established artists. Notable exhibitions during the gallery's early years include The Borglums of Fairfield County, a retrospective of the art of Gutzon and Solon Borglum and the first American exhibition of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
In 1993, Mr. Cavalier developed the nationally-acclaimed exhibition Stamford Sculpture Walk, a program dedicated to public interaction, education, enrichment and enjoyment. The Stamford Sculpture Walk featured large to monumental scale works by world-renowned sculptors installed throughout the downtown area and in Stamford Town Center. Mr. Cavalier’s involvement with the Stamford Sculpture Walk culminated with the 1999 exhibition Important Sculptors of the Late Twentieth Century which included major works by artists such as Moore, Botero, Smith, Oldenburg, Segal and Nevelson. These important sculptors' various approaches were combined to create an exciting, interesting and complete survey of late twentieth-century sculpture.
Cavalier Galleries, Inc. moved its main gallery to its present location at 405 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1994. In the spring of 2000, Cavalier Galleries opened a large gallery and sculpture garden in Nantucket, Massachusetts at 7 Salem Street. April 2006 heralded the expansion the expansion of the Nantucket gallery with its relocation to 34 Main Street, where 5,500 square feet of exhibition space on two floors confirm Cavalier’s status as the largest fine art gallery on island. Contemporary artists working in a representational style are the gallery's main theme. The gallery also maintains outdoor sculpture exhibitions of large-scale sculpture, both non-representational and figural, in Greenwich and Nantucket.
Cavalier Galleries, Inc. services include art consultation and the acquisition and installation of works in corporate, public and private settings. Artist commissions, site-specific work, portraiture and sculpture preservation and restoration are available. As a member of the Appraisers Association of America, Mr. Cavalier is qualified to appraise contemporary works as well as American and European 20th century sculpture.
