Adelson Galleries was founded by Warren Adelson with the idea of presenting a broad range of the finest works by American artists. Although the gallery has had a special focus in the art of the later 19th century and early 20th century, encompassing the Impressionist and Realist movements, it has presented a broad spectrum of American art. The leaders of these movements have been shown in group exhibitions and the gallery has also organized numerous critically acclaimed monographic exhibitions. Among the recent major shows have been several devoted to Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent and Maurice Prendergast. In addition to its extensive displays of American art ranging from the colonial to the contemporary, the gallery has hosted a number of Old Master drawings exhibitions organized by the noted London dealer Flavia Ormond, and has collaborated with Marc Rosen and Susan Pinsky in presenting a rich tapestry of important French prints of the later 19th century in a series of specialized exhibitions devoted to artists such as Gauguin, Picasso, Bonnard, Vuillard and other masters of the print medium. The gallery has produced numerous richly illustrated catalogues and has also generated separate volumes in association with such publishers as Abbeville and the Princeton University Press. Adelson Galleries supports ongoing research in American art and is home to both the John Singer Sargent and Mary Cassatt catalogue raisonné projects.
