i8 gallery was founded by Edda Jonsdottir in 1995, and from the start has sought to preent an electic programme of contemporary artists. Located in downtown Reykjavik. I8´s first space was less than 50 sq.m. The gallery moved to it´s present location in 2001. I8 averages six shows a year and 5 of the artists in the programme have represented their country at the Venice Biennale. Early i8 shows included: Hreinn Fridfinnson, Elmgreen & Dragset, Roni Horn, Ólafur Eliasson, Ola Kolehmainen, Karin Sander and Catharine Yass. In 2004, i8 participated in Art Basel with Finnbogi Petursson in Art Unlimited, and the Icelandic Love Corporation and Ragnar Kjartansson in Art Statement.
