R.S. Johnson Fine Art, established in Chicago on Michigan Avenue in 1955 by S.E. Johnson (1904-1967), has been directed since 1968 by R. Stanley Johnson. Over the decades, R.S. Johnson has produced more than 100 scholarly researched catalogues and exhibitions, including Di Chirico in 1960, Cocteau in 1962, Metzinger in 1964, Cassatt in 1965 and 1997, Leger in 1966, Villon in 1967 and 1978, Toulouse-Lautrec in 1979, in addition to six Picasso exhibitions from 1968 to 1998. R.S. Johnson also is among the world’s leading dealers in Old Master Prints and Drawings, particularly strong in Dürer, Rembrandt, Piranesi and Goya. Mr. Johnson is a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers, one of seven elected members in North America of La Chambre Syndicale de l’Estampe, du Dessin et du Tableau (Paris), and has the honor of being decorated by the French Government as an Officier des Arts et Lettres. Finally, R. Stanley Johnson is well known for his many publications, including his 1991 book Cubism & La Section d’Or.

R. S. Johnson Fine Art specializes in museum quality works of art from Dürer and Rembrandt to Degas and Picasso. Forty-seven museums have made acquisitions works from R. S. Johnson. These include: the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, The Art Institute of Chicago, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and the Norton Museum in West Palm Beach.
