The headquarters of Munich auction house Karl & Faber, the family-run business established in 1923, is located in the Luitpoldblock, just off the Briennerstrasse in the heart of Munich. Over the years the company has become a significant player in the German art auction market.
Staff at Karl & Faber are widely respected for their high standards of expertise, scholarship and attention to detail as well as for their broad knowledge of the international art market. Informed expert advice and excellent personal service are the companys top priorities.
Karl & Faber has held over 200 auction sales, many of which have featured major German Expressionist works. Two annual sales are held in spring and autumn. Regular exhibitions of classical modern and contemporary art are also held.
Areas of specialization include Old Masters, 19th-century paintings, classical modern art, sculpture and Japanese prints, with a strong focus on works on paper.
In August 2003, Rupert Keim took over as Executive Director of the company under its new name, Karl & Faber Kunstauktionen GmbH.
Former owner Louis Karl, who became an auctioneer in 1961 and took over from his father Dr. Georg Karl in 1971, will continue to support the organization in his capacity as fine art expert and auctioneer and to address clients questions and offer expert advice. Louis Karl, who has over thirty years experience in fine art auctioneering, has forged valuable links with collectors, art dealers, specialists and the museum world.
Responsibility for cataloguing and appraisals lies with Andrea Heesemann, Sheila Scott and Katharina Wieland.
Karl & Faber will be pleased to give valuations and guidance on property brought in for inspection and if appropriate, to visit collectors who wish to sell at auction. Please send in relevant documentation or contact Karl & Faber to arrange an appointment.
