Son of the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Beaumont, Charles studied under the artist Boissellier. He debuted at the Salon in 1838 with a landscape painting and continued to participate in exhibitions until 1867. It was primarily as a watercolourist and lithographer that he made his reputation although he also painted in oils. He founded the Society of Watercolourists in 1879 of which he became the president.
